Dear Donor, sponsor, or collaborator:
In the course of his work as an activist and a volunteer-operated at the Latinos Community Services, both people, clients, and participants of Project STEP in collaboration with True Colors often told me how much they love the homey feel he made them feel. We at ALM are delighted to hear that, because it means we’re succeeding in our mission to rehabilitate ex-offenders or trouble MSM (men sex men) & WSW (woman sex woman) rehab into society with the proper resources and some structure that will educate them to learn the basic elements that are necessary for them to rebuild their life from being homeless, or back to prison. Every time you walk in – Wethersfield you’ve come to enjoy a computer lesson, dance class, or just resources. I’m sure people notice his passion and labor for his LGBT community. 1. This is so true. When I was working in a fast food about 9 years ago I knew so many homeless people, as a manager I was provided daily with $5.00 for a meal, let me mind you that at the end of the night most food was trashed out however even thou I got written up at this job at the time, so many times I used my $5.00 to feed two homeless people and the rest of what was left I would give it to other homeless people as in that time they were just so many. I had lots of conversations with them about changing their life and trying to find at least a job and what not, I still remember what I was told one early morning around 4am having this conversation after work. This homeless guy told me: Amanda yes it’s bad living in these streets however I get my drugs from law enforcement which is free, if I just roll around these streets and snitch, then if I get in trouble, at least I have a place to stay and a roof over my head and guaranteed food for a few months and I don’t have to worry about being a snitch, no one wants to give me a job because of my record and as of right now I have nothing to lose just my life which I fight for every night when I’m out of jail. These rehab facilities won’t help because I ain’t got no insurance, I got $300 in food stamps a month for being homeless but most of the time I sell it to survive, it’s easy in these streets no rent, no car insurance, no light bill, no worry about clothes. If I need a shower I go into a public restroom, we can’t even go into a shelter is worst in their then it is out here. If you come late to a shelter for whatever real reason such as weather, or what not you lose your spot anyway.
This made me so sad and confused as in that time I was young and naive in many ways but this is still happening but worst where I live you see so many homeless people, I feel bad that winter is coming, it might not snow down here but it’s freezing in the morning 38 degrees outside. There’s so many of them that sometimes I bring cold water bottles to give to most in my path on my way to work, because of the heat. Over here jobs are so strict.
